4th Grade

Welcome to Fourth Grade

This year I am blessed with a wonderful group of eager students.  We currently have eight in our class, five boys and three girls.  I am excited to see how far we can grow this yea.

I strive to teach children to love reading.  Through out the year we will be reading the following novels; Frindle, Save Queen of Sheeba, Mudshark, Hatchet, and Island of the Blue Dolphins.  As you see some are classics and some are just silly books that engage readers.  We also will be using the Reading Spectrum series to work on test taking strategies.

Every child at St. Theresa school knows that when you have Mrs. Filce you will master your math facts.  I love math and I want no child to ever be intimidated by a math concepts.  We work together to learn the tricks to solving all types of math problems.  With our warm-ups I push each child to go past what is in our diocesan and state standards.  They love it when we get to a concept in their math books that we had already learned months before.

Being that we are a fourth grade class we will be learning about our wonderful state, California.  This means that we will be doing a "Mission Project".  Rather than having each student build a mission at home, I have them each create a powerpoint presentation on a mission.  We then invite their families and other classes in to see our "Mission Projects."

Please feel free to come by and visit our fourth grade class.  We love to show off what we are learning.
